just an fyi…I deleted about 1,200 friends from the vecctones Myspace community based on the fact that they haven’t logged into their accounts for a long, long time. My guess is that they’re bands that have since broken up as result of all the bullshit and people who have abandoned their Myspace profiles in order to indulge in Facebook. check this blog entry out…
As part of my vocal character building, I re-arranged the song order some today. For those of you who give enough of a shit to be reading this and asking yourself, what’s the correlation….well, there just is believe me. I’m finding that my vocal styling is very bluesy and down to earth, you know sort of blue collar, even though I spent the past 6 plus years working at a bank before the economy was driven into the ground by an ignorant incompetence that will probably take the country years to rebound from. So my vocals sort of have this ‘don’t really give a shit about your dueschbag personality or stupid ignorant bullshit’ attitude about them, which I like. I’m sick and tired of a lot of things in this world and I’m now finding that this is the importance of producing my own music and not wasting my time with other peoples shit when I don’t even feel that strongly about their music. ‘Take it or leave it’…if you don’t hear that in my music, then try pulling your head out of your ass, you might hear it better then! lol
From a musician/producers point of view…
I have discovered some good music on Myspace, but now it seems like their search for different band styles feature is gone. Now, you practically have to have a (shunned upon) (yet paid $ for) bot in order to do practical searches or any type of friend management for that matter. I’m trying out this bot now that enables me to search users by musical instrument played or into, on top of the normal geographical stuff, and it works!
It would be nice if Myspace would thread their comments like Facebook. Myspace is limited by its bulletin-board type templating, never mind their bulletin-board feature.
They have made some improvements over the years in how we can manage the comments, I’ll give em that. But now w/ 30% of their employees being let go, I can only imagine how bad their customer service levels will be, it’s seemed somewhat incompetent w/ automated responses that don’t even relate to the issues now.
I’ve been reading things here and there about how there’s going to be some more changes at Myspace soon, including new management, Tom is even expected to move on.
Facebook is cool if you have a ReverbNation profile so you can link their player up to them. FB’s Fan page lacks in that it’s not viral. Groups is the way to go. Facebook seems to be more user-friendly in that it encourages discussions and conversations without having to ping back and forth to see what’s going on. Though maybe a bulletin board styled template is good for bands and fans.
These next few months or couple years will be interesting to see all the software and technological advances that make us go “hey, that’s cool!”
Myspace is still great, people get to rock out and pimp-ify their profiles. Facebook is structurally thought out different in order to help facilitate more of a community in conversation, or dialog w/ its open-faced template.
I’ve come across these same type of issues in sifting through different templates with blogs . Some are better than others at encouraging dialog, whether it’s because of the template design or whatever.

I’m amazed at how important Twitter has become with regards to the crisis in Iran. Youtube, remaining an important resource, has also played a key role, informing us about what’s going on over there, as their Government tries to censor and stop the outward flow of communication. Technology, the internet and all these social networking communities have truly revolutionized much more than just the music industry.
The whole “i-reporter” phenom on CNN is another good example. Everyday people are becoming more and more empowered.
On the down side, information overload, eye strain and slowed down servers due to a growing number of people and businesses competing against one another for success seems to be the headaches of the day.
I’m not immune. And sorry to those of you who find this nothing more but a contribution to the madness. Guilty.
It’s a good thing Pres. Obama has put forth more resources against International Cyber attacks, they’ve increased exponentially against the US by clever, computer savvy Russian teenagers. Not to mention all of our National Security breaches with China.
I guess we are both empowered and vulnerable at the same time.
We’ll figure it out. Shit, Myspace is still trying to pull their heads out of their asses with all their glitches and bullshit.
Patience is a virtue I suppose.
